The donation pool is nowhere near the goal amount, but it’s been a month since the last update and I don’t care.
I might retool the way I do this, because I’d like to update this comic more often. I might get rid of the donation thing all together. Thing is I’d like for people to be able to still send me a dollar or two if they want but I feel really skeevy unless I offer some kind of content as thanks.
Donation pool is running low? Damn, that makes me feel guilty.
Part of the reason I donate is for the high-res scans. Maybe those could be given to people who donate if you scrap donating for the comic itself?
I like Boo's suggestion. In addition to that I'd like to suggest that you put a tip jar in the comments for each new page. It provides readers with a way to donate to you and it ensures that readers will most often only donate when there's new pages, ie. new content.
I've been trying to donate a few times over the past week or so and it keeps throwing errors. Stupid Paypal. Not sure if it's my end or yours. Probably mine.
Weird. I\’ve been sending and receiving money fine with paypal, so if it\’s on my end it\’s something to do with the donate button itself. I don\’t think my buttons are broken since I haven\’t changed anything, but I\’ll check.
No idea if you did something on your side, but I just tried a second ago and it finally took my ten dollars. I'll just blame Paypal and be done with it 🙂
Man, this makes me wish I had paypal. Or just anything to help out with.
Boo and Josie both have good ideas though, and I'd like to suggest my own: Another webcomic that's just finished had donate button that, when it reached it's target (lucky bugger had it set at $250) he'd upload an extra page or extra content for the fans. It worked pretty well.
Also; Milosh and Liam are back! *dances*
Woo hoo, back to the drama!
I know I, for one, will keep donating regardless of what you decide to do, and others will, too. I donate because I'm impatient to know what happens next, and the opportunity to get an extra page ahead of schedule is a great incentive. But many of your readers probably cannot afford to donate on a consistent basis, so IDK, maybe consider lowering the donation amount? If this is a legitimate part of your income, I don't see any reason why you should scrap it altogether.
All these suggestions are really good ones. Look at it from a marketing perspective, I guess. There are lots of ways to incorporate donating into this process.
When I first found out about this website (about a year now), SP seemed to donate pretty steadily, but it gradually slowed down. I wonder why that is?
I'd reccomend lowering the donation limit. It seems to reach $25- $30 easily enough. At least that way you'd still have some donations.
Yeah, I noticed that too. A lot of people have offered really good suggestions though, I\’ll come up with something.
Liam and Milosh! I missed them :3
I agree with the suggestions of lowering the pool or of offering high res scans for people who donate – or going the Artifice route and offering bonus pages or extras, allowing the comic to keep to a regularish update schedule. I donate pretty regularly when there's a new page, but I can only afford a small donation each time. I'd probably donate every fortnight or so in an ideal world.
Anyway, keep up the good work!
I'm not the only one here reading Artifice?
My suggestion was recognized!
Rei doesn't need help tying his shoes! Rei is a big boy now! >:I
Just stuff them in your shoe.
That's what most people do now days.
Freakin' idiots.
