I should not feel bad for Avery but I do, I get this ‘he’s-only-mean-cause-he’s-been-abused-” vibe.

No, he’s still a rapist.
Rapists are still people. Horrible HORRIBLE people who have done terrible TERRIBLE inhumane things, but yes, they can still cry and feel sadness like any other human. I just hope Gabry is strong in his convictions. No matter what happens to the abuser the abused can not and should not go on being abused for their sake. Rei should stick around nearby, or call Robert to do so should something go wrong.
